Abstract

Network segmentation serves the separation of the network inventory (Locations, Network Components, Network Services) in the ConnectMaster® database into different areas, so called ‘Network Segments’. The degree of separation is determined by the assigned user rights.

Segment criteria

Segments are areas defined by a set of Locations as criteria. With that for example a geographical regions (e. g. Countries) or areas of responsibility (set of locations a unit of a company is responsible for) can be defined as Network Segments. These criteria also determine which network inventory belongs to a certain segment.

Segment affiliations

The segment affiliations of dependant objects like paths or usages are derived accordingly based on rules. If a location system or location is assigned to a segment then all sub locations belong to the same.

A location can belong to multiple segments (network coupler location).

Assignment

This assignment is passed on to the components in the locations.

Based on rules line objects (cable/ducts) and paths are assigned/displayed accordingly.

Distributed Objects

If line objects run between two segments they are called distributed objects.

Visibility

Dependent on the segment membership of the user network objects are visible or not.
