Definition

Components of the categories “Cable”, “Strip/Panel”, “End device”, “Card/Module” and “Sleeve” have connection points.

The connection points are the points that offer the possibility to realise electrical or optical connections.

Characteristics

Connection points are defined via the following characteristics:

Characteristic

Type

Description

Series

Number

Specifies the sequence of the connection point within the component type.

Name

Text (10)

Name of connection point.

Connection positions for each point

Number

Number of connection positions of a connection point on the left connection side.

Connection positions for each point

Number

Number of connection positions of a connection point on the right connection side.

Function text

Text (40)

Description of function of a connection point.

Description

Text (20)

Freely available text for the description of the connection point.

Cross-section

Number

Size of cross-section of a connection point.

Colour

Text (6)

Designation of connection point colour (see Chapter “Library“).

Series

The sequence of the connection points within the component type is automatically generated by ConnectMaster.

Inheritance of characteristics

For dominating component types, “Cross-section” and “Colour” are always inherited at component type level. Regarding the characteristics “Name”, “Function text” and “Description”, the user can decide whether the settings selected at the component type level are to be inherited to already existing components of the component type.

The characteristics of the connection point always apply to both connection sides except for component types of the category “Sleeve”. For these component types, all characteristics on the left and right connection side must be set separately.

Automatic creation

Connection points are automatically created when generating a component type based on the specified groups and points per group. After creating a component type, connection points can be added or free connection points can be removed.

Free/used connection points

A connection point of a component type is free when all specific components of this component type have no cross-connections on the same-order connection points. Otherwise the connection point is used.

 Example:

Components “K1”, “K2” are components of the component type “Cable type”.

The connection point “Wire 10” of the component type “Cable type” with the order 10 is free if:

The connection point with the order 10 on cable “K1” does not have a cross-connection, and

The connection point with the order 10 on cable “K2” does not have a cross-connection.
