Layers

A layer can be defined as a specific category of shapes for a better organisation of the shapes on the drawing sheet.

Layer characteristics

For each layer, characteristics can be pre-set, which apply to every shape of this layer. Shapes can also be found in different layers. In this case, the pre-set layer characteristics only take effect in the shape if they have been set up in all its layers.

The following layer characteristics exist:

Characteristics

Description

Visible

Indicates whether the shapes in a layer are visible or hidden.

Print

Indicates whether the shapes in a layer need to be printed or not.

Active

Indicates which active layer shapes without predefined layer can be allocated to. An active layer cannot be locked.

Lock

Protects shapes in a layer from being flagged or altered. A locked layer cannot be active. The characteristics Visible, Print, Insert, Agglutinate and Colour cannot be changed.

Align

Indicates whether other shapes are aligned to shapes which are assigned to the layer. A shape in a layer in which the “Align” option was deactivated can still be aligned in other shapes, however, not vice versa.

Agglutinate

Indicates whether other shapes are agglutinated to shapes which are assigned to the layer. A shape in a layer in which the “Agglutinate” option was deactivated can still be agglutinated to other shapes, however, not vice versa.

Color

Determines whether all shapes allocated to the layer appear in the selected colour. This option does not change the colour of a shape permanently. Select this option to suppress the colour of individual shapes in favour of the layer colour.
