General characteristics

Every component type possesses the following characteristics:

Characteristic	Type	Description
Name	Text (50)	Name of component.
Component type	Component type	Component type on which the component is based.
Category	Category	Category of component.
Location	Location	Location in which the component is positioned.
Status	Status	Status of component; please also refer to Chapter “Library”.
Description	Text (30)	Additional description of the component.
Owner	Organisation	Indicates which company group, company, department, or person the component belongs to.
Used by	Organisation	Indicates which company group, company, department, or person uses the component.
Telephone number	Text (20)	Telephone number of user.
Created by	Text (10)	Who created this component?
Creation date	Date	When was this component created?
Amended by	Text (10)	Who last edited this component?
Changed date	Date	When this component was last changed?
Dimension	Number	See below.
Connections	see below	Information on cross-connections, usages and characteristics on the connection points of this component.
Delivery positions	see below	Supplier data.

Component name

Every component must be given a name. This is mandatory.

Depending on the setting in the category, the name must be unique in the

•System

•Location

•Location, also as element

If no uniqueness check is carried out, the option

•No check

must be selected.

Component type

A component type must be allocated to every component on creation.

This component type cannot be changed subsequently.

Category / Type / Technology

The information on category, type and technology are inherited characteristics of the component type that cannot be changed on the component. They are only used for information purposes.

Creation date, Created by

These two characteristics are automatically set by ConnectMaster when creating a new component and cannot be changed.

Changed date, Changed by

These two characteristics are automatically set by ConnectMaster on saving changes.

Dimension

The dimension is obtained from:

•Dimension = Number of connection points left/right,
see 6.4.4.1

•Container/Cabinet, Network Element, Shaft:
Dimension = Number of rows * Number of slots

•Duct/Route:
Dimension = Number of segments * Number of ducts

Connections

A connection sheet equivalent is represented in the “Connections” tab. It contains information on cross-connections, usage and characteristics of each single component point.
